Choosing a data collection method is often just as critical in provision of timely and accurate research results as selecting the right research questions. There are many benefits and limitations of each of the following methods that our researcher consultants will carefully consider in designing your research program. However, if you think you have a specific need or desire to employ a particular method to answer your research questions, please communicate that expectation to your research team.

Online Surveys
Artemis Crane Research offers expertise in creating and conducting both qualitative and quantitative online surveys. We have access to a database of over 27 million respondents who have already opted-in to participate in corporate research studies. These persons have been classified based on hundreds of unique attributes so our online research can be targeted to specific segments and industries.
Recent research has shown that if only 3 of 10 people are not truthful when completing online surveys, the risk of a manager making a wrong conclusion is twice as high. In addition to employing a rigorous data cleaning process, our online panel respondents are guaranteed to be:
- 100% Real: Respondents are validated to ensure that they are who—and where—they say they are. Their information is reconciled with extensive databases built for specific industries with objectively validated consumer demographics.
- 100% Unique: Respondents are prevented from entering a survey more than once and digital fingerprinting eliminates and blacklists any fraudulent respondents.

Telephone Surveys
Our telephone survey expertise results in higher than average cooperation rates with targeted participants. As a result, we complete surveys with large enough samples to yield statistically valid and generalizable results. Our telephone survey service capacity includes:
- A 30 station CATI (computer assisted telephone interviewing) facility.
- Fully operational staff for calls from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm every day.
Artemis Crane Research staffs client projects with experienced and articulate telephone interviewers who have demonstrated the ability to collect high quality data in similar types of studies. Additionally, we provide close monitoring and guidance at our call center, where all interviews are digitally recorded for quality assurance and staff training programs.

Mail Surveys
Due to advancement in a variety of technologies, mail surveys are now used less frequently than other research methods. However, mail surveys are still a viable alternative when email addresses or phone numbers are not available, or when you have a database of highly involved existing customers. Mail surveys are also an option when the nature of respondents’ jobs limits easy or frequent access to the Internet or a phone.
The Artemis Crane Research team handles all aspects of mail surveys, including questionnaire development, printing, mailing, data entry, coding, cleaning, and analysis of results. As with any research project, we work closely with clients to identify their research objectives and information needs. From there, we design the mail survey instrument to maximize question clarity, response validity, and completion rates.

Focus Groups
Artemis Crane designs and conducts insightful focus groups on behalf of our clients. Our moderators are unbiased professionals who are highly skilled at obtaining candid feelings and beliefs. Customized to the specific research objectives, focus groups can reveal customers’ perceptions and attitudes toward a product, brand, or concept. Focus groups are particularly useful for identifying underlying motivations to adopt a physical product, service, or idea.
Artemis Crane plans and executes all elements of focus groups, including development of the screening criteria and discussion guide, recruitment, invitations, and moderator preparation. After the focus group(s), we deliver a written report — including a full transcript of the focus group session, and full qualitative analysis of the discussion content. If you have a need to conduct a focus group in a specific city, Artemis Crane will do everything reasonable to meet your needs. At this time, we have the capacity and recruitment resources to conduct focus groups in:
- Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego, CA
- Chicago
- New York City, and
- Tallahassee, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami, FL.

Interviews and Intercepts
In some circumstances, one-on-one interviews are the preferred research tactic. Our skilled moderators and interviewers, all of whom are trained in behavior theories, marketing principles, and probing techniques, conduct these interviews both via phone and face to face. Like focus groups, these methods can be qualitative, exploratory, and conversational in nature. Quantitative surveys are often conducted using interviews and intercept methods as well.

Secondary Research
Secondary research consists of gathering information that has already been published from a variety of sources. Examples of this type of information include articles in business periodicals, company documents such as press releases and government filings, and specialized studies from sources such as trade associations, syndicated research firms, and industry analyst groups. Our researchers are specifically screened during the hiring process based on their ability to efficiently find relevant secondary research results. This type of research is great for industry and competitive research.
