What is Strategic Planning?
Strategic planning is the process of understanding how the strengths of your business can best fulfill marketplace opportunities and provides your organization with the direction needed to meet important goals. A strategic plan acts as a road map providing “turn-by-turn” leadership for your business. It includes the goals and objectives for each critical area of business including organization, management, marketing, sales, target customers, products, services and finances. These business areas are laid out and transformed into one cohesive system that enables an organization to successfully plot a path and assess progress towards their goals.
Although we recognize every organization’s unique purpose in building and executing strategic planning, Artemis Crane has identified a few of the most common objectives our clients wish to achieve in the process. Some of these objectives are:
- A desire to understand and quantify both the market for and competition to the product or service that you plan on offering
- The ability to tell a compelling story of an unmet need, how your product or service meets that need, and how you will market, sell, and deliver that product or service.
- The ability to develop a realistic schedule and identify the key milestones needed to implement your business plan.
- The need to identify the additional executive team members and employees (by name, job title, or skill set) required to market, sell, and deliver the product or service you plan on offering.
- The need to identify the revenues, costs, expenses, and outside funding needs associated with your product or service and develop pro-forma financial statements.
Strategic Planning services are fully customizable to meet the exact needs of our clients and their businesses. With a customized plan for your business, you can be confident that you are fully utilizing your time, money, and other resources to their maximum potential.

Why is Having a Strategic Plan Important?
According to a 2009 McKinsey study, 78% of businesses use their strategic plans to assess progress on a monthly or quarterly basis. These business view strategic planning as a necessary process in order to effectively create, execute, and track critical business goals. Your business plan should be a living, useful document – not just something to be completed and put on a shelf. You should be able to use it as a sales tool to help acquire those resources (time, people, and money) needed to implement your plan, as well as a benchmark to help you manage the business once it begins operation. If you have ever said “There must be a better way to do this,” heard the same complaint from clients or colleagues over and over again, or have seen a way in which new technology can help solve an old problem, then you have the beginnings of a business plan – A fully developed strategic plan will ensure that your product or service will meet some need better, cheaper, or faster than it is currently being met.
